Make Walking More Efficient
Address step length, weight transfer, foot clearance, or other findings that affect your walking pattern.
Balance, Coordination & Mobility
Practical walking and movement training to help you navigate your home, stairs, workplace, and community with greater confidence.
Understand Your Care
Gait means the way you walk. Mobility also includes getting out of bed, rising from a chair, transferring between surfaces, and moving through your surroundings. Pain, weakness, stiffness, or weight-bearing restrictions can change these skills. Your therapist identifies the barriers and builds a plan around the places you need to go.
Your therapist connects this approach to the findings from your evaluation and the goals you choose together. We discuss what a useful response would look like and whether this treatment belongs in your plan.
Potential Patient Benefits
Address step length, weight transfer, foot clearance, or other findings that affect your walking pattern.
Develop the skills needed for standing, bed mobility, and moving between sitting and walking.
Prepare for stairs, curbs, turns, or longer distances using the support appropriate to you.
Your Visit
Your therapist observes walking and transitions, reviews weight-bearing instructions, and checks relevant strength and joint motion.
Training may include a cane, walker, or crutches when indicated, with attention to fit and sequence. We progress distance, speed, or environmental demands at a manageable pace.
We check how treatment affects both your symptoms and a relevant movement or activity. Your feedback helps guide the next step, including changing the approach when it is not useful.
Between Appointments
Use the assistive device and walking limits recommended for you. Plan rest breaks and choose clear routes while practicing the strategies learned in the clinic.
Let us know how you feel later in the day and during your normal routine. A treatment that feels comfortable in the clinic should also fit into a manageable recovery plan at home.
Individualized Decisions
Do not abandon a device or exceed a surgical weight-bearing restriction because walking briefly feels easier. Report new calf swelling, increasing pain, dizziness, or repeated near falls.
Share your medical history, medications, recent procedures, and any change in symptoms. We can discuss alternatives when a technique is not suitable for you.
Questions About Gait & Mobility Training
When appropriate to your plan, your therapist can assess the device, teach its use, and practice the transfers and surfaces you encounter. Device selection may require coordination with your medical team.
Your therapist selects complementary approaches around the limitations found during your evaluation. This treatment may be paired with exercise, movement practice, or education when those approaches support your goals.
The schedule depends on your condition, healing stage, progress, and relevant authorization. We reassess your response rather than promising a fixed number of treatments or a guaranteed outcome.
Let’s work toward less pain, more movement, and a stronger you.
