Trial Symptom Relief
Some appropriately selected patients may experience a reduction in radiating discomfort during or after treatment.
Supportive Modalities & Taping
A carefully monitored trial of controlled pulling force for selected neck or back presentations, alongside an individualized rehabilitation plan.
Understand Your Care
Mechanical traction uses equipment to apply a measured force through a support or harness. It may be considered for certain patients with radiating symptoms, particularly selected neck conditions, after a thorough assessment. It is not routinely helpful for every type of spinal pain, and evidence and recommendations differ by condition.
Your therapist connects this approach to the findings from your evaluation and the goals you choose together. We discuss what a useful response would look like and whether this treatment belongs in your plan.
Potential Patient Benefits
Some appropriately selected patients may experience a reduction in radiating discomfort during or after treatment.
If symptoms ease, your therapist can pair the response with suitable movement and exercise.
A supervised trial helps determine whether this approach adds value for your particular presentation.
Your Visit
Your therapist examines your symptoms and neurological status, reviews medical history and spinal precautions, and explains the proposed goal.
Position, force, and duration are adjusted conservatively. Symptoms are monitored during and after treatment; traction is stopped or changed if symptoms worsen or spread.
We check how treatment affects both your symptoms and a relevant movement or activity. Your feedback helps guide the next step, including changing the approach when it is not useful.
Between Appointments
Do not buy or improvise a home traction device without professional guidance. A clinic response does not automatically establish the correct home setup, force, or treatment schedule.
Let us know how you feel later in the day and during your normal routine. A treatment that feels comfortable in the clinic should also fit into a manageable recovery plan at home.
Individualized Decisions
Fracture, instability, significant osteoporosis, spinal cord concerns, and other medical conditions may rule out traction. Report increasing weakness, numbness, dizziness, or unusual headache immediately.
Share your medical history, medications, recent procedures, and any change in symptoms. We can discuss alternatives when a technique is not suitable for you.
Questions About Mechanical Traction
No. Traction should not be presented as permanently repositioning a disc or guaranteeing decompression. Its value is judged by symptoms and functional progress in an appropriate patient.
Your therapist selects complementary approaches around the limitations found during your evaluation. This treatment may be paired with exercise, movement practice, or education when those approaches support your goals.
The schedule depends on your condition, healing stage, progress, and relevant authorization. We reassess your response rather than promising a fixed number of treatments or a guaranteed outcome.
